Is a Clinical Psychologist different to a Psychiatrist?

Yes.  Clinical Psychologists are specialist psychologists in the assessment & treatment of many psychological & mental health problems such as depression & anxiety.  They use well researched & proven psychological treatments to address such problems.  These are often referred to as the "talking therapies" & may take the form of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy & many others.  Clinical Psychologists aim to not only relieve both the symptoms & distress that someone is experiencing, but to reduce the risk of future relapse & to improve an individual's quality of life.

Psychiatrists are medical practitioners & hence medical specialists in the diagnosis & treatment of mental illness.  They include the use of biological assessments & treatments such as scans, blood tests & medication to address the presenting problems of their patients.  Like Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatrists also take into consideration psychological & social factors & may provide psychological therapy.

Clinical Psychologists & Psychiatrists often work collaboratively in addressing different problems.  This may combine to produce optimal results.
